i hate aj burnett he fucken sucks i said it all along it was a bad move. bring in phil hughes in his spot and throw burnett in the pen. his biggest contribution to the team so far was smashing shaving cream in the face of game-winning heroes. of course aj burnett has yet to have been hit in the face with anything. DID I MENTION I HATE HIM.

a playoff is gayoff

It cant be all about money, it cant be. unfortunately it is. unfortunately we live in a time where the high school basketball landscape is shaped by nike and addidas. its an era that forces us to think of banks and thieving corporations every time we refer to a baseball park or football stadium. i always nervously envision my credit card bill every time i talk about the mets next home game. my sweet tooth activates when i watch kyle busch race. when the spurs (at&t center) play the wizards ( verizon center) ,to me, its a battle for cellphone supremacy as much as it is a basketball game.

maybe its not so unfortunate. maybe these big money corporations provide sports with massive dosages of sponsorships that it allowed the leagues to reach financial levels never before imagined, which in turn it used to produce a greater product for us fans to enjoy. maybe money and tv contracts are what fuel sports, maybe professional and collegiate sports have been sleeping with the devil for so long it has developed into a conglomerate as well. maybe they no longer know how to survive without their medication ($). maybe we'd still be stuck in the time of short shorts, hairy legs, long white socks and chest passes. yes, money spoils players and fans and management and owners and it devalues details and fundamentals, but maybe the games would never have evolved into what it is today in the first place. and no one can argue that sports is becoming more and more popular each day. it has become a multi-billion dollar industry despite what the old men with no teeth will tell you about the good old days. purists are fine with me, but, baby, come on. its 2,00freaking9 lets start realizing what sports really means (product/business/entertainment) and forget what it used to be(i dont even know what it used to be). simply put, in order to maximize every detail of a sport to increase production from athletes, you need large amounts of cash. down to conditioning, uniforms, facilities, their breakfast meal, you name it, it is of superior quality today compared to what it was back in the day because of superior financing. whether we want to admit it or not we as fans are spoiled and need this money infused in our sports. we can never go back to the way it was.

all this brings me to the vaunted debate TO BCS PLAYOFF OR NOT TO BCS PLAYOFF? that seems to be the question of the decade. so ill try to logically opine as to why we should keep it the way it is (cash cow) as opposed to what it can be ( pure playoff system for the weak-hearted).
pretty much the the second biggest argument bcs detractors make is that the bowl games are all about money and sponsors. so once people get over their jealousy and simplemindedness they will appreciate what the influx does for game in a broader sense and instead of just a few games at the end of the year. really quickly, my version: massive companies paying millions to attach their name to bowl games allows ncaa to offer a payout to schools who in turn use that to better their program, including better coaches, newer facilities, etc. Then maybe next time your hungry for a steak youll reciprocate and choose Outback Steakhouse.

Here are some of the numbers i found:

Under the rules, the championship teams of the Atlantic Coast, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pacific-10 and Southeastern Conferences go to the B.C.S. automatically. This season, the first team in each conference to qualify receives $18 million — win, lose or draw — and that money is distributed in that team’s conference. If a second team from a conference qualifies, the conference shares an additional $4.5 million.

Pacific Life Holiday Bowl, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, FedEx Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl presented by Citi, Allstate Sugar Bowl, and the BCS National Championship Game (with rotating sponsors) have a payout of $17 million each, for a total of $85 million

Its true purpose is to generate the most money for the various sponsors that support this system and the academic conferences. The BCS makes about $96 million a year in total revenue.

yes, its a crap load of money and yes its probably rooted in greed but all im saying is that this money is what makes it the great sport we have come to know and love.

im moving on.

every game has meaning. this is a fact no one can argue with. this creates a playoff atmosphere for an entire season. not one sport can claim to play a meaningful game on their season debut. even in college basketball, in supposed big regular season conference games, they really have no impact bec there is a post-season conference tournament. all the games do is determine seeding for the conference tournament and maybe get you brownie points from the selection committee if you're a bubble team. baseball is boring till late summer. basketball not till at least the all star break. and even football their are often teams that start off slow and reach playoffs with 9-7 record. but in college football 99% of the time if a preseason top ten team with high hopes loses, it completely changes the entire outlook of their season. they go from undefeated and in the drivers seat to a paranoid team with one loss, playing hard and just hoping for an opportunity to prove it was a fluke just like last years gators. (see how one loss meant so much to that team and energized them for the remainder of the season). clearly a playoff would devalue the regular season games. and thats not what we want, do we?

personally my favorite devils advocate reason is this: Playoffs do not reward the best team. it sounds lunatic, but pro playoff people just yell SETTLE IT ON THE FIELD!!! and thats gonna make it all better. but to me the playoffs would just reveal to us the hottest team at the moment, not the greatly superior team all year long. other than the once-a-generation-magical-wire-to-wire-undefeated-season it wont truly reveal the best, just the best of the day. think of 2006 steelers as an example of a team that rode heat off their ass to capture a title. ill never admit they were the best team that year. the colts would have beaten them 9 out of 10 times

the biggest risk in all of this is taking a chance on all the unnecessary injuries. adding these games would greatly increase the chance of injury, which would effect other areas including diminished draft status, missed classes, missed combine and other workouts. remember these are kids.

Controversy = Ratings: one of the great little perks of this system that no one talks about but everyone talks about is the fact that this whole controversy gets everyone amped up. the bcs system creates controversy which creates dialogue which translates into ratings and more airtime and exposure(bad press is good press too) for their sport.

all anybody can think about are themselves. how can i make my life funner, more exciting. how can my team get better. what about the kids that dont go the nfl? do you know 95% of college football players dont sniff the pros. they actually have to study for their exams and pass and graduate so they can hopefully get an actual job. if there were to be a playoff it would likely extend into finals period and interrupt studies for most of the participants. didnt think of that one, did ya.

do people realize that if there were to be a playoff it would be at the same time as late season nfl games and playoff games. do you think ncaa wants to go up against the most popular time of year in sports. nah.

Lastly, how do you go about deciding on the teams who will compete in the 8 or 16 team mini-tournament? Based on the rankings/polls? These are the same rankings and polls that are so despised beyond belief. how do you seed? How do you make everyone happy?

Longball

Why, oh why, do we waste our time? why is opening day made into a huge spectacle. why do the talking heads build up the anticipation as if its the playoffs? why does anyone care about the first three months of baseball?

Baseball is always referred to as the only "12 month sport" because of all the hot stove reports and rumors in the off-season. baseball is constantly in the news, but truthfully its a 3 month sport (july september, october). we all love the spring rumors involving our favorite teams and players. but once peter gammons' fart dust settles and trades and signings are all done, the fun is over. the season starts and its a straight boring snooze-fest till july when the trade deadline, and all that comes with it, rumbles in. then there's september playoff races, then finally the playoffs. so what i cant wrap my head around is why do we need the 162 games? if you think about it a schedule similar to that of basketball or hockey would be adequate enough to determine the best teams. it really is a marathon and not a sprint to the finish line. then again what is a more popular event in the olympics, the marathon or the 100 meter dash. marathons are long, slow, dull, languid, mind-numbing, monotonous, uninspiring and any other synonyms for boring you can come up with ( or google). and that is only referring to the general season, if you wanna go even deeper and dissect the details and modern nuances of an actual game of baseball it becomes as exciting as the lady who collects books in a library. baseball, in and of itself is a great game, but many things in todays game, and some archaic traditions, have factored in to create our current version of AMERICAS PASTIME.

number one: tv commercials, 9 innings is a long time to play baseball ( see below) so throw in 8 min breaks in between each one and your just extending an already drawn-out drag-athon. thats approximately 64 minutes of time wasted on just changing sides, drinking amphetamine-laced gatorade, and scratching your jock. imagine all the runners in a marathon just stopped running so nbc can go to commercial break. wait, so this would make baseball worse than a marathon bec at least runners dont take breaks. corporate america ruined baseball.

number two: pitching changes, the strategy and managerial chess-games that occur are not the problem, its just that when you have so many games, starters cant go seven innings like they used to. most starters last about five to six innings, which leads to more pitching changes. there are also a more diverse group of players and specialists available which leads to more righty-lefty matchups and substitution maneuvering which, you guessed it, leads to just more pitching changes. and more pitching changes means more time off the clock. managers are doing what they can to win the game, so you cant blame them( im actually not blaming anyone im just doing what i like to call "free-style bitchin")

number three: the amount of innings. seriously why do you need nine innings to determine a winner. there is no reason other than that is how they did it the first time around, back in the 1600s. once they played the first game, the "baseball purist" was born and it became almost impossible to change any rule. follow me on this. one of the few core rules of baseball to ever be changed was the imposing 9-game-series. think about it. nine times of going at each other is totally unnecessary and way too much time needed to resolve a winner. more times than not the superior club wouldnt need the last few games. they switched to the more logical seven game series. but ironically, the reason i believe the originators chose a 9 game format (baseball being very numerically and statistically oriented) was bec a game has nine innings and a series was perceived as essentially one long game, thus the 9 games (one game for each frame). obviously the potential for a team to comeback from a 4 games to 3 defecit was there, but too often the last few games were irrelevant. to explain further once the board of baseball directors( i made that up) decided to reformat the world series it was way too late by then to change a game to seven innings, but they knew deep down it was still too long.
its just that its gotten to a point in this attention defecit generation we live in, that if it dont grab me by the balls i'd rather sleep and dream about running a marathon.
so what does it all mean? it means i cant wait for kobe vs. lebron in the freaking finals.

its just not right

its been awhile and i apologize. michael phelps stole my typewriter to pay for more drugs. its horrible. joe torre stole all my ideas. its been a rough few months for me. a- rod stole my sun-tan lotion, seriously, i thought if a guy was on steroids he would be like this -or if a girl is on steroids she would look like this. stop, he's sensitive. so i'm wondering who is in the hall of fame classes of 2015-2020? omar vizquel? cliff lee? randy johnson? this guy? i used to think steroids was the worst thing, it was cheating to the fullest degree, and you were a disgrace if you were using, but now its slowly becoming clear that it was indeed the culture in baseball between mid 90's and 03'. not to defend these guys but if entire clubhouses were doing it, why not ? it must have been so easy to justify it. "it defenitely shows results, no one cares that i do it, the fans love it, the owners love it, my teamates and manager appreciate my increased production, ok so my girlfriend complains once in a while but i'm ripped and getting a fat new contract in the off-season" see how clear it was to make a decision. don't judge, don't act all holier-than-thou, we all would have jumped at the magic juice, me first. these stupid, naive, pretentious sports writers like gammons, stark, selena roberts( the SI cunt who broke the story), and reilly all pretend that these guys are criminals, and convince themselves that they're horrible people who chose an evil path to cheat and connive, and that somehow that fact will make the writer in them feel better about themselves, bec really they are empty and lonely souls who are nothing without their subjects. by now they have completed their self-brainwashing that if it was them in the shoes- or cleats- of a player faced with a choice to use performance enhancing drugs they would g-d forbid even think about smelling them. "i mean come on now, it's cheating!! really, its just not right. " GO FUCK YOURSELVES all of you douchebag sportswriters, who are pretty much just stalkers with a laptop. some of these people are worse than paparazzi, and i fucken hate paparazzi with a passion. it is everything i stand against in life all wrapped up in one little canon rebel xti.
DO YOU EVER SEE true sports writers like simmons or jason whitlock doing any of these bullshit "investigative reports"? NO bec they dont care, bec they wouldnt get off their ass from the couch and a game if a chemical missile made a direct hit to their directtv. bec they realize sports is a game, and they dont take themselves seriously. selena roberts thinks she is fucking deep throat. ill deep throat you stupid bitch!! ( that was too easy). go work for the silver-haired, turtle neck wearing queer on cnn, anderson cooper. go sneak around and find people who dont pay taxes or something, of course, all in the name of justice and all in the name of the truth. ugh, i hate you, i hope you die. i wish someone would stab you with like 50 infected needles and theyre in you like a porcupine and the disease is flowing through you, you stumble to your knees, your eyes roll back to your head, you fall to the ground and with your last breath you say .....oh shut up and just DIE already bitch no one cares what you have to say anymore.

i like the juicy story just like the next guy, but we cant spend all day obsessed with inane details about the privacy of someone elses' life. if a star screws up in a public place, fine. if an athlete gets arrested , which becomes public , fine. but to go around looking under every rock for evidence of the slightest of wrong-doing is disturbing. "A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez" by selena roberts is coming out april 14th. the sad part is its going to sell well.

im moving on. i dont want to start on the congress issue.

i want to pose a question, what the hell was torre thinking? the man was a truly beloved figure in the anals (funny typo i think ill leave it) of new york sports. right up until he lyrically murdered his entire former team. i heard he called jeter a bad dresser. whoa!! a-fraud is one thing but to call out the greatest yankee ever as coiffely-challenged is heracy, lunacy and idiocracy.

Eight men who attended the south carolina party with michael phelps were arrested. were they asked how they got the weed, were they asked if they have more weed, were they asked if they sell weed? no,no,no. they were asked how did phelps hold the bong?, how long was the hit?, how was it pulling? the cops down there are seriously trying to build a case against and eventually arrest phelps. in short, a man took a hit from a bong, there were apologies and dropped endorsements. but wait, its not over, attention and media-seeking police have now intentionally opened an investigation against this "criminal" all with tax-payers money and while allocating the valuable time of many of their officers on this truly important narcotics case. this is our country people, this is our country.
coming next year:
"bong-water: the many munchies of michael phelps" by selena roberts.

quick hits:
yankees will be good. not bec of burnett and arod and jeter and posada, but bec cano and nady and hughes and joba. bec cano will turn it around. bec nady is sickly underated. bec joba moves to the pen and dominates. bec phil hughes performs finally and locks down fifth spot. if your 7 and 8 hitters are batting .300 and doing like 15-25 with 70 -90 rbis then your good regardless of mvp numbers from the middle. if phil can phigure it out , allowing the best setup man in baseball to reclaim his natural spot then they will be the best team in baseball.

favre is finally done. too bad, i was hoping to add a favre lions' jersey to my collection. wait, there is still hope.

cant wait to lose money in all of the march madness

the refs gave another super bowl to art rooney and the steelers!! i happen to know obama is involved somehow.

boldin the toughest guy in sports.

kryptonate is pound for pound the best athlete in sports.

the team that trades for amare will never win anything, ever. ok, for the next ten years.

tourney and baseball picks coming soon!!

scroll down for 2009 NFL MOCK DRAFT!!!
